GSC Teams Ready For NCAA Cross Country Regionals
11/6/2009

Birmingham, AL-The Gulf South Conference placed nine women's and seven men's squads in Saturday's 2009 NCAA South Regional Cross Country Championships to be held at Sydney Dover Trails in Dove, FL.

Five-time defending GSC Champion Harding headlines the women's 16-team field.  The Lady Bisons are four-time Regional Champions, but they seek to return to the winner's circle for first time since 2006 after posting second-place finishes the past two seasons.  Also competing from the Conference are Arkansas Tech, Christian Brothers, Delta State, Southern Arkansas, Valdosta State, West Alabama, West Florida and West Georgia.

Harding also leads the way on the men's side after claiming its second straight Conference crown two weeks ago.  The Bisons seek their ninth overall Regional Title after claiming seven of the last eight events (HU placed fourth in 2007).  Rounding out the league's other men's participants are CBU, SAU, VSU, UWA, UWF and UWG.  Henderson State's Gabriel Ghioca earned an individual invitation after finishing fourth at the GSC meet.

The University of Tampa will host both meets.  Fans can visit the event's official home page by clicking here.  The men begin their 10K race at 8:00 am Eastern, followed by the women's 6K race at 9:00 am.

The top two teams in each race along with the top two individuals from non-qualify schools will advance to the 2009 NCAA Championships which will be held on November 21st at the University of Southern Indiana.
