BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-There will be a new team joining the crowd in Pensacola, Fla. this week as a squad punched its first-ever ticket to the postseason.
Ouachita Baptist (6-7-0, 2-3-0 GSC) used solid goalkeeping and a great offensive attack Sunday to defeat Harding and claim its first trip to the GSC Tournament in school history. Freshman midfielder Rizvan Ceka became the first Tiger since 2005 to win GSC Player of the Week honors after notching two goals in the 4-0 victory over the Bisons (4-14-0, 1-4-0 GSC). Senior net minder Neal Ozmun stopped all 10 shots he faced and collected his second GSC Defender of the Week accolade this season. OBU squares off with top-seeded West Florida (8-5-2, 5-0-0 GSC) in Friday's nightcap at 7 pm.
Alabama-Huntsville and visiting Christian Brothers (6-8-2, 3-1-1 GSC) were unable to settle matters last Wednesday after playing to a scoreless draw. The Chargers (5-6-4, 3-0-2 GSC) clinched the second seed with the tie but will face the Bucs in the Semifinals Friday at 4:30 pm where a winner will be determined.
