BIRMINGHAM, Ala.-Two squads that opened last week's league action wrapped up the final two spots in the upcoming GSC Women's Soccer Tournament.
Alabama-Huntsville (9-6-0, 4-3-0 GSC) clinched its first GSC Tournament berth since 2003 after defeating visiting Christian Brothers Wednesday, 2-1. The Lady Chargers claimed the third seed and squares off with second-seeded North Alabama (17-2-1, 6-1-0 GSC) Friday at 11 am in Pensacola, Fla.
After dropping the close contest to UAH, the Lady Bucs (9-5-1, 4-3-0 GSC) needed only a tie at West Georgia Saturday to clinch their second consecutive trip to the postseason. Senior net minder Christina Barone stopped eight shots including a penalty kick as CBU wrapped up the fourth and final spot with a 2-0 shutout. Barone collected her second-straight GSC Defender of the Week award and third this year. The Lady Bucs face top-ranked and No. 1 seed West Florida (17-0-0, 7-0-0 GSC) in the Semifinals Friday at 1:30 pm.
